Of Frost and Fire 2020

Currently: There is no god. God looks upon this fic and says “Nope, fuck that, I don’t get paid enough for that shit.” But if it’s the last thing I ever do, I will get to the end of this godforsaken mess!
Rating: M: Rape, drug abuse, violence, discrimination, hate crimes, possession, alcohol use, torture.
Also this story is like, really long. 400k+ words kind of long and I’m not done. Just, fair warning.

A pair of twins from France seek out magic realm, and start a new life together. As that life they’ve built together begins to take twists and turns that they were not expecting, and threats arise that neither understands, the two begin to seek answers, answers that eventually prove to be more dangerous than the threats that caused the questions in the first place. The two must then figure out how to right wrongs that have stood for thousands of years, survived countless generations, and not lose one another along the way. But you have to lose, sometimes, to know how to hold on.

I copied Morgyn Ember, and made Damian Ember (whom I later renamed Ezio, because Damian was a randomly generated name that had no meaning for him or me). Damian married Cassandra. Then Cassandra stole the Vatores, turned them human, then stole Morgyn, Morgyn turned Caleb into a spellcaster, and craziness happened. It took on a life of its own, and now we’re here with the combined story, Of Frost and Fire, formerly called Make Me Bad. This story will eventually get a rework and be published as an original tale.

Warning: This ain’t no place for heartwarming stories. It’s very sad, it’s pretty heartbreaking, seems to go in all the wrong ways all the time, and it’s probably kind of emotionally exhausting. But it is one of the works that I am most proud of. It spirals into insanity and goes really mature content-y but it’s been a ride.

Part I: Tell Me Lies

A pair of twins from France have settled in magic realm, seeking new directions for their lives. Both have grown from where they came from, into their own in their own rights. Things begin to change around them over time, and it quickly becomes apparent that there are things going on in the background, and there are people that seek to ruin the relative peace of the realm. As one begins to be able to hear the melodic song from somewhere deep within magic realm, the realm’s own cry for help, it becomes apparent that they’re caught up in something no one seems to understand, whether they like it or not, and must figure out how to fix it.

Part II: Throw Me Away

Though the warnings that seemed so urgent thirty years ago have stopped, and the lives of the Ember twins have continued on in relative peace, the threats have not gone anywhere, only lie in wait. When the warnings return, and the twins are once again faced with a threat to magic realm, some things fail to add up and the answers leave more questions than they resolved. Though the Embers fight against a threat that has arisen to take down the All, the source of all magic, it becomes clear over time that what the spellcasters think they know might not be the truth, and the lies that magic realm rests on may be a threat to existence itself.

Part III: Calling Me Home

The Ember twins were, if bitterly, victorious in stopping the ancient vampire’s plans and freeing the All from her control. But now they have other issues to deal with, between one twin being severely injured in the fight for the All, and the other dangling on the edge of a breakdown. The two face still more questions about the All, magic realm, and now, what Aine’s role in these events is. Saving the All and restoring magic nearly killed one of them. Do they dare to continue nosing around in magic realm’s surprisingly tainted history? Just where exactly is this rabbit hole of disaster and tragedy going to lead? And just how much more will be lost before the end?
